    Dai, Luthien! I'm Sam.
    Randomness:
My puppy (the one that looks like my avatar) is SICK! He's normally energetic and he likes chasing me while chewing on my jean hems. But today he won't even run. And the vets don't know what is wrong! *is worried*

      • OK M. He's being really funny, just walking around and looking at me, and squeeking his squeeker toy. He is soothed by that sound. All the vets told us was to give him gatorade! So he's been licking blue gatorade off my fingers all night. That is the only way he'll drink it. I've got an actual pciture of HIM in my latest entry in my Live Journal (the link is in my sig)

            Aurie said:
Frankly, I don't believe being born is a sin. Being human is not wrong and sinful.
            Thanks. Yes, exactly. *sigh*

Though I think the idea is that it's not the action of actually being born that is a sin, it's the existence. Uhm... I think it's the idea that humnas are ultimately fallible and thus are sinners? Something like that...

You know, Christian hunting definitely isn't nice. On the other hand, nor is atheist hunting. And I'm afraid that Christians atheist-hunt more than non-Christians Christian-hunt- I'm NOT NOT saying all Christians do. But let's remember that to many people, and it has happened to me, attacking the beliefs of a non-Christian is cause for feeling good. Sad but true. On the other hand:
Hmm. That's right! But it doesn't really matter. People can believe in whatever they want, Buddha, God, original sin, Paginism, whatever
most Christians, and others, are more like M.

Hi, Marguerite! nice to meet you.

As for n00bs- actually, M, lots of newbies do that in lots of places, either because they're lazy/just tried something but found they weren't really interested/got banned from the site/didn't like something they read there/felt threatened/many more reasons. But mostly it's laziness, or lack of a desire to keep stuff up.... definitely not your fault, you're not scary. Much. And yeah, you get lurkers, too, which is what littlehorse says- people who hang around a read, but don't post, until they're comfortable. Or just don't post because they don't have anything to say.

*hugs papercrane* I missed you, too! *applauds* Yeah, I did notice that...

            *hugs M*
Re Abroad: Actually, I checked the site several times before I left, which was only, uhm, less than two weeks ago. But I could never get in... I'll try again vv soon. (Just to let you know that I haven't forgotten and neglected it, I have been trying.

As for resolutions, some others of mine including cutting down/quitting swearing, which I do too much and am utterly sick of; attempting to keep organised with my school books this year (which I think I can do, because I've worked out the best systems for me); doing my homework (as opposed to not doing it); keeping tidy-ish; and trying to keep up my practice. Mostly, though, I want to focus on school, because this is the big year. Oh, I also want to cut down on my chocolate intake.

As for gender switching, this is the thing: some people feel genuinely unhappy as the gender they were born in. I don't, so I won't go further... but it happens. And I will say that it is NOT a gay thing. Gay people change their gender no more (maybe less, but won't speculate) than straight people do. I do know that when straight people change gender, they tend to become gay, as opposed to remaining straight.

*hugs meteorite* Hee, cat problems... you seem to have more than your fair share.

*hugs bc* I'm sorry!!!!! I didn't mean to laugh at you. Please forgive me.
As for gossip magazines- I don't read them either (and anyway, I don't think I was alive when Ian McKelllan's sexuality was exactly a hot topic.) I was really more amused at the fact that this, apparently, isn't as common knowledge in America as it is in New Zealand, especially in the backwash of Lord of the Rings publicity.

*hugs Ella* I don't go back for, uhm... a couple weeks, anyway. But in between times I have Sydney holiday (whee!) and Suzuki camp (ohnoohnoohno, I have not praticed for two months, I'm gonna DIE.) Spongebob=SCARY.

I heard about Muniz getting Punk'd. I think it's a stupid show. But I don't care about FM in particular, I mean, if they're going to do it to anyone it's just as bad even if it's, I don't know. Britney Spears. (Though when they did, I think it was Justin Timberlake.... itwasactuallykindafunny. >.&lt

*cracks up* Steve Irwin!! The Crocodile Hunter! I think he's wierd. But not as wierd as Jackson...

            *hugs Aurie*
As for grades, we have Excellence, Merit, Achi3eved. Excellence is 95%. Merit is between 94 and 65%. Achieved is between 45 and 65%. No honour roll, just end-of-year prizes for us... *vague shrugs*

            Hi, luthien tinuviel! Nicetermeetcha.

Ella: that is the best introduction. As for newbie packs... *counts posts* OK, then, I'll do a n00b pack post, may as well... but I'm going to do a three-in-one, because I'm still concerned about the volume thing.

As for the libraries: *hugs* That's terrible! Terrible! Cruel and unusual!

*puzzled* ppc, if Amber's ypur name... the reason nobody calls you it is because we don't know it. I do now, though....
*hugs the KBA* Don't listen to them, the KBA is kawaii!

*hugs Sam* I hope your puppy gets better. Or at least that you find out what the problem is. Knowing is so much better than not.
            Gatorade?

*puffs* Too much to say! OK, newbie packs.

This newbie pack is issued for Luthien Tinuviel, wizardfool11, and marguerite. I hope they collect it, and enjoy it.

Your FREE Newbie pack, courtesy of Birdhead, aka Tui:
            -1 get-away-from-Aurora Free ticket
-1 virtual muffin (banana chocolate chip or other on request)
            -2 helpful warnings
            -Several pieces of advice

First Warning: Do not, on ANY account, call the person whose username is <hushed whisper>marniebrown1</hushed whisper> marnie, Marnie, Marnie Brown, marniebrown, or any variation thereof. Call her Agent M, or M. Violations of this rule could result in grave injury. You've been warned.

Second Warning: don't mess with Aurora. don't fight with Aurora. Don't do anything that will lead people to call in Aurora. She's dangerous. Simple ways to avoid being hurt by Aurora: Don't diss anime/manga. don't call M*********** well... you know what I mean. Be polite about her friends- actually, this should go without saying: be polite and respectful of everyone. Other than that, though, you should be fine...

            Helpful advice:
Do not expect to retain your sanity if you visit at all regularly. It just doesn't happen.

Don't expect to stay ontopic. As can be noted in this post, even posts with the most on-topic intentions crumble into miscellaneous in-jokes and Chatter after a while.

Obviously most of these boards are dedicated to the books, as most of its members are but Chatter II and The Topic of Great Randomness, which is a topic that I started but then got so big that it got its own forum, are for the random, non-Young Wizards chat stuff. We ask that it stays there. Also, it's a big thing around here, but DD herself pays for these poems, so please THINK before you write. Please, no one-line posts, or, (God forbid!) one-WORD posts. But I'm sure that'll be no problem.

Note spelling. I am a spelling and grammar freak, and I'm not the only one; misspellings drive me nuts. I can deal with them, but PLEASE capitalise your "I"s? Please? We also prefer that people don't use netspeak, if you can avoid it.

Beware. Sometimes we talk in other languages. You WILL pick up at least two words of Japanese (bishonen, which means pretty boy, and kawaii, which means cute, are the most common ofeenders.) We also break into french and Spanish when we're bored.

You may hear something about the Evil Bunny Avatar. DON'T Listen. the bunny is papercrane's avatar, and it's KAWAII! Very Kawaii! It's the KBA!

Most of us are Americans, but we've got quite a few nationalities around here, and obviously quite a few belief systems. R-E-S-P-E-C-T is the ultimate. And, of course, being insane and having fun--because all of us are friends.

Questions? Ask. If any of this sounds intimidating, which I hope it doesn't, it's not representative of the forums. We like new people, and not just in roasts.

Note: This is edited and improved using some of Ella's stuff, so if it looks very familiar, that's why. I was supposed to be slimming this thing down, curse it...

            • Sam, how's your puppy? Is the gatorade helping? Why is gatorade ok but water and other liquids aren't?

A banana chocolate chip muffin sounds nice.
Thanks also for the warnings, though I had picked up something about Agent M's name.

As for the helpful advice...most of my friends would say I lost my sanity a long long time ago.

                • Sam: If they want your puppy to drink gatorade, then he must have some kind of stomach problem. Usually they tell you to do that so that he gets lots of fluids and nutrients that are easy to digest. I really hope that your puppy gets well soon! Give him a big hug from me!

Everyone: I just got back from vacation! IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! I actually saw platform 9 3/4 AND a castle that looks JUST LIKE Helm's Deep! I was on the plane for so long that I finished all of LotR in two short weeks. YAY!!!!!

                      • Woot! I'm almost done with Inkheart, which is Cornelia Funke (she wrote The Thief Lord)'s excellent new book. It's really original and I love Elinor, for anyone else who's read it.

SCHOOL TOMORROW! *sob* Oh well, I'll live. I just need to get my grade up in Geography, because I got an 88% on the India test (150 points!) which is not up to my usual standard.

And yes, I am a perfectionist.

Wow, Tui, that was loooooong. And I can't believe I forgot to put someting about the off-topicness in my post! Ack!

Re the library: Well, I can usually get what I want, because the library is connected to a network of all the public libraries in the county, so I can order the books electronically. The problem is, I used to find most of the books I read while browsing the shelves. And their are practically no shelves to browse anymore *sigh*. BUT we're planning to get a membership to the library of the university, which is apparently huge. So hopefully my problem will be at least a bit improved.

My cat is literally trying to climb up the chimney. *laughs*

                              • Dai Ally!! It's perfectly normal to have disorginized thoughts, especially around here... I think some of my first posts sounded the same as yours... but I wouldn't know, Lee, the forum administrator, deleted most of my first posts. I used to have 3,000 something, now I'm getting close to 2,000, again.
To answer some of your questions, This site is about... I'd say almost 3 years old... Wow. That's scary. Especially since I've been here from when this site was like... 3 months old. I'm old and young at the same time. I'm almost 13!! I need to say that as many times as possible.
Um.... And I can tell you exactly how old The Topic of Great Randomness, this topic, is... one minute, please hold , Okay.. haven't visited that page for a loooooooooong time, it was made on April 27 2003, so almost a year old.
