  • Hah. I am, most probably, the only person in Michigan who does not participate in any winter sports. Not skiing, not skating, not snowboarding. I am a disgrace to my state.

    • Back to teeth: I got my molars back when I was five I think. It was really freaky. Then when I was nine I got my wisdom teeth...Luckily, they fit fine and I didn't have to have laughing gas or whatever.
And meteorite---I am so sorry. (What more can I say? *rakes brain*) Hugs.

                • Errr, Agent M, this is probably rubbing salt in the wound, but you might wanna read this page of the NT's website. Particularly the parts about Day Seats, Standing Room, and Returns--all methods by which you may get into a Sold Out show.

I did it the last time I was in the UK to see the then-latest Stoppard play, The Invention of Love. Lined up at 8am, and was able to snag one of the six or so Day Seats they had left. But for His Dark Materials you might have had to get there before dawn ...

Stoppard? as in Tom Stoppard? Isn't he the one writing the screenplay for HDM movie? Or maybe he's directing it....

                    • *shrugs* I have no idea, but I somehow doubt it... Stoppard writes semi-comedy mostly, doesn't he? Or, wait, I may well be confused... but his stuff plays here a lot, it's quite popular, and none of it seems much like HDM.

OTOH, you'd know more about it than I would.

                        • Hmm...I would be really uncomfortably if I were Lyra. I mean, think about it. Your picture would be all over the WWW, you would be a celebrity, everyone would want to know about boyfriends and girlfriends and..."Have you ever been kissed?" Which is not a question I want to answer. Seeing as there are very personal sections of my life that I don't tell anyone.

                          • Yeah, that Tom Stoppard. Although I think of him more as the Tom Stoppard of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, Jumpers, The Fifteen-Minute Hamlet, The Real Thing, Hapgood, India Ink/In the Native State and Arcadia.

And Tui, Stoppard's a most-excellent playwright, but he generally makes much more gonzo money working on screenplays (sigh). I've only ever seen two screenplays he worked on that felt completely Stoppard-like, which were Shakespeare in Love and his adaptation of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. All the others (Brazil, Russia House, Billy Bathgate, Enigma, etc.) don't feel much like him, except in small spots. He's very good at letting the original material come through. He won't be turning HDM into a laugh-a-minute or something.

We can only hope that we'll be getting the Ridley Scott of Bladerunner and not the Ridley Scott of Legend.

BTW, found a radio show on the BBC website that mentions the NT production.
