                      "You can learn a lot about a language from how many words it has for a particular concept. Take, for an example, the Eskimos--they have some thirty-something words for the concept of 'snow'.

                      (Don't worry, it's actually more or less innocent, and they're actually siblings, so it doesn't have to be taken in a Vanilla-esque way... but... I just thought it was funny it turned out like that XD)

                        Actually, the word that has the most meanings in Enlgish is "set". Off the top of my head (i.e. without trying) I can get think up a dozen plus usages as nouns, 30+ as a verb and 6 as a adjective. (These as without combining with other words - eg "set apart"). I'm sure someone has a copy of teh [u]Guinness Book of Records[/i] (or Guinness World Records in the USA), which'd give more exact figures.

                        The reason for this multiplicity of uses is that word set comes from two different origins. The Germanic "set" has given us all the meanings to do with being extablished, fixed or solid, whilst the Latin "set" has given us all the meanings to with collections.

                          are a few that I remember.

                          I took my GREs yesterday. I haven't heard about my essay scores, but since it was computerized, I got my math and English scores immediately afterwards. I kicked its little patoot!
