    • penguins!! haha, I wanna put up the penguin avie I made... according to my friend "Penguins are in fashion". wasn't quite aware of that... but I like my spork one.. *huggles* maybe for a brief while I'll put it up.

well,no, here's what it looks like:

ack, such a short post for me.... *sobs* but I have to go do homework and then swimming.. yay, swim swim!! only my knee keeps cracking when I do breastroke kick... I hope I'm not gonna reinjure it... I messed it up over the summer running, and then after it healed I reinjured it when I went for too long of a run too quickly and then well, I just hope it doesn't come back because I HATE not being able to do sports...

      • Do you know what happens when you have way too much sugar at lunch? You get hyper. When I get hyper, bad things happen. Well, I have ICP right after lunch. We did an experiment with shampoo stuffs today. Hehe... Of course, I put down the test tube, and the air pushed it over! Crash! Glass all over! Actually, I'm exaggerating a little, but you get the picture. *sigh* I was the only one to break anything that day... The teacher said the test tubes were cheap, though, so they were the best things to break. *snicker* As my friend put it, I "broke good". *rolls eyes* That's pretty much all I have to say for today...

          • The chat has become a room for math freaks. Might as well copy all of it, and Tel started it with her math homework.

            Gryphon heyy
            RhyanonSorenson yeah.
            Gryphon still a big chat@
            Lisa Dai Gryphon!
Peter Murray Ok, multiply by that, as two separate terms.
            Gryphon
            RhyanonSorenson Dai, senpai gryph.
Peter Murray Dai. Tel's doing her maths homework online.
            Gryphon
            RhyanonSorenson
Telaldalin si. if you don't want me to i can stope
            Telaldalin *stop
            Gryphon no, i won't mind
RhyanonSorenson Eep....I'm having trouble with this one. If only I had some paper......Watch the answer be like five or something.
            Peter Murray Gryphon likes maths.
RhyanonSorenson Gryph might be able to help.....
Gryphon tell me what it is!
Telaldalin could i just pretend they all weren't denominators and solve it that way, or do i have to keep that in mind?
            Peter Murray (1/2x+3)+(1/x-1)=(1/ 2x^2+x-3)
Peter Murray No pretending allowed .
            Telaldalin aw
            Telaldalin
            Telaldalin math is evil
            Gryphon s
            Gryphon not
            Gryphon s'not
RhyanonSorenson Especially problems of THAT calibur!
Peter Murray So, when you multiply by those two terms...
            Telaldalin s'too
            wildflower44 Dai!
            Peter Murray (x-1) + (2x + 3) = 1
            Telaldalin wow, wait, lost me.
Peter Murray Which is now easy, and I'm going to another window .
Lisa I'll try to help, but since I'm only in seventh grade, I haven't gotten as far as any of you.
Gryphon is the long guy above that pm posted what you're doing?
            RhyanonSorenson I'm in eleventh grade.
            Telaldalin yeah
            Peter Murray Yes.
            Telaldalin me too!
RhyanonSorenson That's pretty much alegbra II work.....well, I learned it. Not that it helped me much. At least I can keep up with what you guys are doing.
            Gryphon (1/2x+3)+(1/x-1)=(1/ 2x^2+x-3)
wildflower44 Argh? I think I clicked the wrong link...
Gryphon lemme write it down on paper before chime scrolls it up
Peter Murray Tel: You had those two terms in the right hand denominator: (2x + 3)(x-1).
            Telaldalin ok
            RhyanonSorenson What link, wf?
wildflower44 This is NOT what I thought I clciked on.
            RhyanonSorenson
            wildflower44 On mp3search...wrong song.
RhyanonSorenson Did you get something bad?
            wildflower44 No, just different.
            RhyanonSorenson
Peter Murray Multiply each term in the equation by those two (one at a time if you want).
Telaldalin so leave all the denominators alone and have (2x+3)(x-1) as the numerator?
            Peter Murray Denominator, yes.
Peter Murray Then you can cancel out terms.
            Telaldalin ok
            Peter Murray You get (x-1) + (2x + 3) = 1
Gryphon i'm probably gonna go head first into it the hard way...
            Gryphon
            Peter Murray and x =1.
Peter Murray Augh! No it doesn't!
RhyanonSorenson Yeah, me too, gryph. Paper and pencil ?D
            Peter Murray x = -1/3
            RhyanonSorenson
Telaldalin you lied to me! no, jk
Peter Murray All these people who keep _paper_ handy in the 21st century!
wildflower44 I have officially fallen into a state of having NO idea what's going on-ness.
            Gryphon i'm at
Telaldalin same here. my brain is hurting and i need more paper
Peter Murray WF: That's Ok, you were talking about dead squirrels earlier.
            Gryphon 2x^2 + x - 3 = 3x^2 + x -3
Peter Murray Oops, that's bad, it's your homework. Hmmm.
Gryphon i got rid of the denominators
Peter Murray WF doesn't have to understand.
Gryphon by multiplying out the two that add and then doing cross products
Peter Murray You shouldn't end up with any x^2.
            Gryphon huh
            Gryphon and now i've got x^2 = 0
            wildflower44 ...dead squirrels...
Peter Murray Oh - Tel may be confusing you with (1 / 2x + 3) - that's how she's interpreting the book fractions.
Gryphon oh, i know what i did
            Peter Murray it's (1/(2x + 3))
            Gryphon i never added them!
Gryphon i know what she meant
Peter Murray Ok. I had to stop and check.
            Gryphon *backs up*
Gryphon ok, now this makes more sense:
            Gryphon x^2 + x -3 = 0
            Peter Murray 3x = -1?
Gryphon from here you can do quadratic equation or factoring
Peter Murray I lost all the squares in step 1 or 2.
            wildflower44 182!
            Peter Murray TOGR = 182 .
RhyanonSorenson Yeah, I lost it long ago. That's a complicated problem. I think I had a few of those in my class...............................I did them, but..... I forgot how to do all this stuff.
Gryphon togr's a lot bigger than that
            RhyanonSorenson Long problems stink!
            Gryphon do not!
Peter Murray WF's up to page 182 in her rereading.
Telaldalin yeah. and i'm still lost, but don't worry about it everyone
Gryphon my brain can't factor at 9 o'clock...
RhyanonSorenson I'm not a math person. I'm a language person.
            Gryphon *scribbles down equation*
Peter Murray No, I meant I got rid of the squares, and it's a linear expression.
            Gryphon linear?
Gryphon looks like a quad to me!
            RhyanonSorenson Yeah, linear.
            RhyanonSorenson I can't explain it.....
            Gryphon meh
Peter Murray Not on my version, the squares went away.
            Gryphon *does quad formula anyway*
RhyanonSorenson I'm only on one of the fiftieth pages of togr.
wildflower44 *Jumps* Eep, I turned on the music and forgot about it, and QuickTime was being slow, and then it came on, LOUD, suddenly....
Telaldalin i get 1, yet pm said it wasn't 1...
            Melissa is Online
            Telaldalin cheese and rice
            wildflower44 DAI!
            Peter Murray Dai again.
            Gryphon i have
Peter Murray I got x = -1/3 the second time, but I did get 1 the first time.
            Gryphon -1 +- (square root of...) 13 / 2 = x
            Gryphon
Gryphon sqaure root 13, not 13/2
Peter Murray I like mine better, it's easier .
            Gryphon how's it linear?
wildflower44 Lissa, please tell me you're not obsessed with/really good at math! Then we can be lost together....
Telaldalin and it can't be 1. i don't know what i did wrong
RhyanonSorenson I got lost on that problem.
            Gryphon it's quadratic!
Peter Murray What was the step before that?
            RhyanonSorenson I'm lost too, wf.
            Gryphon before my last?
            wildflower44 Hehe.
Telaldalin or wait. i skipped a step.
Lisa I'm in my school's honor math class...but math's always been my weakest subject.
            RhyanonSorenson And my brain hurts!
            Gryphon x^2 + x - 3 = 0
Lisa (B+ being "weak" for me)
Peter Murray Lisa: Melissa gets abbreviated to 'Lissa, so we're confusing you now .
Telaldalin now i get -1. dangnabbit.
            Gryphon lissa has two s's
            Peter Murray (x-1) + (2x + 3) = 1 - that's what I got after multiplying by the denominators.
            Lisa Ohhhhh...
            Lisa but I'm still lost.
Telaldalin yeah. that's what i got too
Gryphon ok, show me how you multiplied the denomnators
            Gryphon *doesn't trust pm*
Peter Murray Hey, I was forgetting this stuff before you were born .
Peter Murray Oh rats, now I have to find the original again!
Gryphon multiplied all of the equation by all of the denominators?
Gryphon why, when you only had to add, then do cross products?
            Peter Murray (1/2x+3)+(1/x-1)=(1/ 2x^2+x-3)
Telaldalin HURRAH!!! i got it!!! thanks a ton everyone for patiently sitting through my stupidity
Peter Murray but the right hand bit was:
            Gryphon heh
            Gryphon
            Peter Murray (1/(2x+3))+(1/(x-1))=(1/ (2x+3)(x-1)) really
Peter Murray Now I'm working on Gryphon .
Gryphon oh, i know what i did...
            Gryphon
Telaldalin here. i'll throw out another and y'all can have a race to see who gets it first.
Peter Murray Multiply throughout by the right-hand denominator, and you get a very long line.
Gryphon i've become a failure at fractions
            Telaldalin ditto
Gryphon first i multiplied the two adds together
            RhyanonSorenson Hopefully, it's easier....
Gryphon and then i got their denominators the same, but didn't change the numerators
Gryphon cassie is sitting on my paper
RhyanonSorenson Whew......that hurt! and I wasn't even trying to solve it!
Gryphon a race would give pm an unfair advantage!
            Peter Murray (x - 1)+(2x + 3)=1
            RhyanonSorenson Yeah, it would.
            Gryphon
            Telaldalin (5/(x+4))=4+(3/(x-2))
            Gryphon ahhh
            Peter Murray Nyahahahahah!
RhyanonSorenson That easy, silly. The answer is one.
            RhyanonSorenson Just kidding....
            RhyanonSorenson I haven't solved yet.
            Telaldalin meany
            Peter Murray x=13
            Gryphon *glares at pm*
            Gryphon she just jumped off!
            Peter Murray
RhyanonSorenson hm...5x+20....WHAT!??!?!?!?! YOU SOLVED IT ALREADY?????????
            Telaldalin how?
Peter Murray *pays Cassie in cat food*
            Gryphon grrr
Peter Murray Same way as the others.
            Gryphon how?
Peter Murray Hopefully, you'll agree when you get there.
            RhyanonSorenson NNNNNEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
            RhyanonSorenson
Peter Murray Multiply by the denominators.
            Gryphon rhya, where'd you get 5x + 20?
            Telaldalin both again?
            Peter Murray yes.
RhyanonSorenson I was thinking aloud.....it was the multiplying the top by x+4.
            Telaldalin confused.
            Lisa is Offline
            Lisa is Online
Peter Murray Well, multiply by first one denominator, write that equation down, and then do the second.
            wildflower44 Dai!
Gryphon you wouldn't multiply the 5 by that
            wildflower44 again.
            Peter Murray Bouncing Lisa.
            Telaldalin ok
RhyanonSorenson You are so mean, Peter. Just cause I'm slow at math....geez. Why'd you have to be a math genius? What do you do for a living? Crunch numbers?
Telaldalin you mean cross multiply sort-a thing?
Peter Murray No, it's just a hobby.
            Peter Murray Yes.
            Gryphon gah
Telaldalin was that a yes to me or rhya?
Gryphon this one is a quadratic this time...
Peter Murray I use maths in the 3d software, as Gryphon commented.
Peter Murray No, it still isn't quadratic!
            Peter Murray Yes to Tel.
            Gryphon ...
RhyanonSorenson This is one of those annoying ones where you have to do that thing where you multiply all the denomenators up top and it's just a ruckus!
Gryphon you multiply the 4 by (x-2) and (x+4)
            Gryphon how's that not quadratic?
RhyanonSorenson Hold on guys, let me copy the problem!
Peter Murray Oops, I got it wrong .
            Peter Murray Rats.
            Gryphon HAH!
            Gryphon *hurries*
Peter Murray I lost the race .
Telaldalin so what's the denominator eventually for the 4?
Telaldalin or did you move all the fractions to one side?
Peter Murray *finds an envelope to write on the back of*
            RhyanonSorenson YAY! *scribble*
            Gryphon doesn't exist
            Gryphon lesse
            Gryphon the x ints. don't
            Gryphon ( 5 +- i 15 ) / 2
            Gryphon hah!
Gryphon where i is the square root of negative one
            RhyanonSorenson x=1/3. D:
            RhyanonSorenson
RhyanonSorenson That was my answer, at any rate...
Peter Murray Hmmm. Ok, now I have (a) a quadratic equation which doesn't factorise (b) no memory of the right equation to solve them.
Gryphon oh, 15 is to the root
Gryphon i can't use the formula?
Gryphon i can sing it in a song!
Peter Murray I haven't used it in at least 29 years!
            Peter Murray I've forgotten it.
RhyanonSorenson you multiply each side by the other side's denominator, at least, that's how I did it....
Gryphon minus b-eee, plus or minus, the square root of b square, minus four a c, all over 2a, equals x, equals x
Telaldalin quad. formula is: -b plus/minus the square root of b^2- 4ac all over 2a
Telaldalin pop goes the the weasel.
Peter Murray Oh, I only had two mistakes
            RhyanonSorenson Oops.....forgot to do something.....
Peter Murray Rhyanon: That's how I did it, but I missed out the 4 that way.
            RhyanonSorenson yeah, me too.

This one was quadratic! So HAH! *huggles all*
Gigo: Hey, it's the person who puts 'asian' in 'caucasian'. Hi, Gryph. | | | wildflower: Hmm... should I side with "Gryph is more insane" based on conclusive evidence, or "Sharky is more insane" based on tradition? | | | [url="http://mariposa-mentiro

                • Tel: Without looking at the answer. I get x=-19. I bet its wrong *goes to look* hmmm... doesn't seem to be a definite answer. AHH NOT QUADRATICS! ... hold on. *fetches calculator* Gah! I can't be bothered.

I spent the day at the Uni I'm going to today. It was kinda fun, but aweinspiring at the same time. Its soo big, and I don't know anyone - and noone knows me. Its scary. I'll get used to it sooner or later. And some of my friends from school should be there at some stage.

Ok. I have one quick question at the moment. Could someone please explain the American slang for your money? I know quaters, and are dimes 10c? I have an american textbook for Chemistry and it mentions them.

                  • I'm sorry to hear about you're bad dreams, Art... *huggles* If this helps, I think of my bad dreams as... well... not bad dreams... I find dark thoughts facinating, but I don't completely give in to the Lone Power. Yea so when I have a bad dream, I try to remember it for no particular reason... And then I totally forget about it because I'm kind of dumb... Yea so I'm not sure if this method (is it a method?) will work for anyone, but at least it's a suggestion...

Yes, a dime is 10¢. And a penny is 1¢, which apparently makes some US people think that the stamp "Penny Black" was a 1¢ stamp, not a British 1d stamp.

Artemis: Aw. I hardly ever seem to get bad dreams. I've got no idea what you can do to get rid of them, but there's supposed to be something.

                      • FIxed it. Sorry guys. When I posted it last night it wrapped it and everything. .

Hey does anyone remember a link from www.bored.com to a game thingy where you thought of a movie and went through answering questions and the database thingy would guess it at the end? I had a look for it last night, and it seems that the link has gone from bored.com - can anyone help me find it? I'm bored

                        • Hi to Lisa! Welcome to the madness!

PM, alla, the new avatar's a temporary change. I just felt like doing a little bit to promote Mirrormask. Once the flick's out, I'll probably go back to my chop. The first one I was using is the white queen (played by Gina McKee). The current one is the Mirrormask.

PM: cool! math tutoring via chat! :-)

AW: My nightmares always seem to involve dentistry and feeling my teeth shatter in my mouth, as you say, repeatedly. But (thankfully) that one doesn't recur very often. Not sure what to tell you, except that dreams are, according to one theory, how the brain dumps its garbage. Maybe writing or talking to friends can help dump some, too. I generally dream a lot more when I'm stressed than when I'm not.

                          • Alla:
AHH NOT QUADRATICS! ... hold on. *fetches calculator* Gah! I can't be bothered.
Forget the calculator. Do it on paper!

                            Pennies = 1cent
                            Nickel = 5 cents
                            Dime = 10 cents
                            Quarter = 25 cents
Dollar = $1 (I think you know this one)
Five dollars and so on from there.

My last nightmare was pretty bad, and I don't know what it was from. Normally they're only after creepy movies (and then I get these messed up combinations if I've been doing something too much -- like the transparent ghosties floating around on a Tetris scene). Never have to do anything with the lone power. Well, as for the last one, the characters were kinda like anime. In my dreams, I'm rarely anyone, but sometimes there's a person I follow. In one bit, one person was talking to another when blood gushed from the ceiling, and there was a torn body up in the bars in the ceiling. There were also these really creepy monsters that could've been cute and harmless, but then two characters entered a subway car that was on a beach infested with them. I can't remember much more than that. Meh.

Homework tonight... Two huge history assignments, and one is leftover from last night that was due today, but I forgot the write it down.

                            • Art:Yawn three times before you sleep and the nightmares will go away. (It works for many people, I know it's weird but it's something mental.)

                              • Yeah, and I think it also helps to wash your mind out with something neutral and unscary, like a non-frightening book (i.e. And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie wouldn't be a great choice.) I do it after I've watched a movie. I think that might by why the yawning trick works, because the last thing you do before going to sleep is thinking about yawning, there's nothing for your mind to create nightmares out of. But whatever it is, I hope they go away. Bad dreams are no fun.
